August 2026 Update
Hello Indies!
August is here and we are officially less than one month away from the second annual SLICE and just over one month away from the 16th annual Seattle Indies Expo (SIX)!
Speaking of SIX we are excited to announce this year’s lineup of 41 games as selected by our panel of expert judges! 2026 was another record setting year with 115 total submissions and 692 total reviews. Head over to the website to check out all of the games you will have a chance to play at SIX on Sunday September 6, 2026 at Hilton Motif Seattle or check out on SIX Online happening simultaneously on our Twitch and YouTube channels. Thank you to all of the judges who provided critical feedback to all 115 entries, thank you to all 115 teams who submitted their games this year and congratulations to our 41 nominees. We have an absolutely stellar lineup at SIX this year and we can’t wait to see you all there. Many of the games have Steam Demos you can download and play today!
SLICE will be returning on Wednesday September 2, 2026 at McCaw Hall with another slate of panels, workshops, roundtable discussions, and some exciting new features we’ll be announcing in the very near future along with this year’s lineup of speakers, presenters and topics. We have already announced this year’s Fireside chat will be with Among Us developers Forest Willard and Marcus Bromander! More speakers will be announced as we get closer to SLICE so keep your eyes on the website and get your tickets now! We’ll also have an expanded game demo area and this year we will be featuring the PocketGamer BIG Indie Pitch competition! Pitch your game idea in five minute lighting rounds to a panel of industry experts, get critical feedback and be eligible for prizes! Sign up to participate here: https://www.bigindiepitch.com/event/the-big-indie-pitch-mobilepcconsole-edition-at-slice-2026/
And to throw a little chaos into the mix we have officially joined the Summer of Jimothy with the upcoming Jimothy Jamothy game jam taking place from August 15-25, 2026 where we are encouraging everyone to make games, art, music, whatever you are inspired to make based on the internet sensation from right here in Ballard. Too busy working on your games for PAX and SIX? Drop a Jimothy Easter Egg in your game and join in the fun. We will have premade assets on the Discord server you can grab and use in your games and jam creations. We are also beyond excited to announce our first official satellite site the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment – (MADE) in Oakland, CA! Hopefully we will have more sites joining in on the fun from around the country and the world. Here in Seattle you can join the upcoming Narrative Game Jam at Hugo House August 15 & 16, 2026 and work on an epic backstory for your Jimothy Jamothy games.
Can’t wait to see everyone at SLICE and SIX next month and get Jimothy Jamming!

SIX (Seattle Indies Expo) – Sunday, September 6th, 2026 from 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM
SIX is a free one-day celebration of independent games and game creators from the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We consistently hear from attendees that SIX is one of the best events of that entire weekend alongside the other major gaming expo happening around the corner from SIX and in 2025 we welcomed nearly 5,000 guests who came through to spend the day checking out the games and chatting with the developers and community members.
Recently, SIX Submissions have been officially closed with a new record of 115 submissions, smashing the 90 submissions we received last year! In 2025 we selected the top 40, both all-time records in our 15 year history and we expect no less in 2026! Additionally, due to the high demand and increase in quality of the games we were able to expand SIX 2025 to take over two full ballrooms in Hilton Motif Seattle. We also combined SIX Online, our streaming showcase of the games with our in-person showcase and managed to interview all 40 teams on the live stream to help build the buzz both in-person and online for our biggest day of the year.
We will be returning to do the same on Sunday September 6th, 2026 with a full day of incredible locally-made indie games and the developers who made them!
Want to volunteer for SIX 2026? Sign up now to be a part of our biggest public facing event of the year https://six.seattleindies.org/volunteer
SIX IRL will be held on Sunday, September 6th, 2026 from 12:00 PM – 9:00 PM on the 3rd & 4th floors of the Hilton Motif Seattle (1415 5th Ave, Seattle, WA 98101)

FORGE is the reimagined Creative Campfire, a one-day event hosted by Diversity in Games (DIG) with the goal of raising the profile of underrepresented groups and emerging studios in the game dev community. Join us for a day of compelling panel discussions, structured networking opportunities, and a deep dive into understanding the gap in funding and investment in Canada’s game sector.
As part of the event, we will be conducting a series of interviews with local game studio founders to better understand the barriers to growth facing independent developers and studios. Insights gathered will be compiled into a community report and published for distribution.
Light refreshments will be provided, including vegetarian, vegan, and dietary restriction-friendly options.

Whether you’re making a 2D platformer, a 3D surrealist nightmare, a cozy narrative game, or a full-blown grunge rhythm game, if Jimothy is in it, it counts.
The world needs a little levity and unity right now. Let’s bring everyone together one round raccoon game at a time.

Looking for a time and place to work on a project? Want a deadline and accountability partners for something you’re doing? There is an event for that!
The Slow and Steady Jam is a themeless 2 month jam to bring your own project and get creating. https://itch.io/jam/slow-and-steady-jam-jul-aug-2026

This Month’s feature is Katie Fremont

My path has wound from biophysics and computational chemistry to underwater robotics to AR/VR and finally to games. Most recently, I was the Lead UI Engineer for Rec Room before being affected by layoffs in August 2025. Since then, I’ve started my own indie studio, Chaos Gremlin Games, and worked fulltime on Diabolocracy.
Diabolocracy started as a side project a few years back and has grown into trying to make a really good tactics roguelite that also satirizes a lot of the more ridiculous aspects of corporate and government bureaucracy. It’s been a really fun coming up with ridiculous puns (like SIN-ergy) while also making a tactics game we’d enjoy playing.
What inspired you to become a game developer?
I feel like games found me more than I found games. I’ve always had creative outlets (writing, drawing, playing piano poorly), but creating games engages all the different parts of my brain at once and I adore it. There’s nothing better than watching someone engage with your game’s loop.
What is one important lesson you have learned in your time as a game developer?
Deliberate practice is the key to success. This goes beyond ‘practice makes perfect’, it’s more about how you practice. You have to try something with goals in mind. For example, if I’m making dev art and also trying to improve my art skills, I’ll have a short-term goal in mind like avoiding tangent lines (intersections in lines at different depths) or improving color palette choices by studying existing art that I like. You’d be amazed at how quickly you improve by only focusing on one thing at a time!
What is the one piece of advice you would share today with your younger self before you started your career as a game developer?
Failure is an essential part of learning, so don’t sweat it too much. The only real failures are when you give up or when you repeat past mistakes.
Fear of failure and fear of other’s judgement about my failures held me back for so many years. It was really tied up with my imposter syndrome and was a beast to unravel. Both my career and personal development accelerated when I was able to overcome those fears.
How has the game developer community had an impact on your career?
Various game dev communities like Seattle Indies have been a lifeline for the past year or so. It’s been so nice to go to meetups and workshops or just chat online with the amazingly talented and creative people in the game dev community. I wish I had found it all much sooner! .
What is something interesting and unexpected that people would be surprised to learn about you?
I’m an aspiring rockhound and would love to learn how to facet gems. Sometime in the next few years, I want to take a trip out to Montana and hunt for some sapphires at one of the mines out there that lets you buy a bucket of gravel. I’ve gotten some by mail before, but I really want to go in person.

We don’t require polished art here – make sure it’s fun before you pretty it up!

Oberyn (Bryce): Rites of Accord
Hey guys, I am super super excited to announce a completely new single-player game mode called Survival for Rites of Accord (my 3D hex tactics and teambuilding game–previously multiplayer-focused), playable now at: https://ritesofaccord.com/
Survival is a roguelike nearly endless single-player wave survival mode where the game throws increasingly overwhelming waves of enemies at your squad and you can earn credits to spend on unit recruitment, upgrades, new abilities and team-wide boons between waves! Its got its own season leaderboard as I will be switching the waves and boons etc. up each season and in traditional roguelike fashion, you can maintain one save file for your run at a time, but it also overwrites with autosaves so you can’t save scum.
A lot of players have been asking for a single player mode, and I wanted to take the time to create something really compelling while still using the same characters, universe, and mechanics, and this is what I came up with. Please give it a try and let me know what you think!

For further resources to educate yourself on the issue and how to take action, here is a useful link: https://anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co/
Seattle Indies believes the stories of the victims of sexual harassment and assault in the games industry that have been shared. We strongly condemn the actions by people in power preying on the dreams of vulnerable people trying to make their way in the industry. We strive to build an inclusive community that welcomes all minorities to provide a safe environment and a better vision for the game industry.
While our code of conduct states a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind, we are especially sensitive to the daily challenges faced by womxn due to the ingrained sexism that has existed in the structure of the games industry for far too long. We are actively working to build a better community of game developers, and we all need to do better.
Additionally, Board Member Angel Mero has offered to be a personal resource for anyone who needs help, someone to talk to or some guidance on next steps if you have experienced harassment in the industry either at our events or elsewhere. She can be reached at angel@seattleindies.org.
Our friends at Take This Org have compiled valuable resources for anyone in immediate need of professional help for their situation.
Lastly, Seattle Indies and Diversity Collective+ support Black Lives Matter. Here are some resources compiled by Diversity Collective+ for how you can offer support, whether this is financial, contributing to petitions, preparing for protests, or getting informed.
