November 2026 Update

Nov 2nd, 2026 by Seattle Indies

Hello Indies!

November has arrived officially meaning we are reaching the end of 2026!

Thank you for joining us at our Halloween events! From the Seattle Indies Halloween Game Jam 2026, check out and play all 10 games here!

Speaking of game jams, Game Jam Plus is coming up this weekend and we’ll be hosting it both in-person at DigiPen Institute of Technology in Redmond and online on our Discord server.

The colder and darker months are upon us but there are always more big events to look forward to here to keep you warm and connected with our supportive community. The Holiday Party will be coming up before you know it in December and it is the can’t miss party of the year. We’ll be taking over Game Works again for our usual evening of games, food and fun. Read more below and get your tickets now!

It is hard to believe that at the end of November we will be celebrating the ten year anniversary of Seattle Indies as a nonprofit organization. The organization and the community has accomplished so much in those ten years from moving SIX to Motif, growing it to take over two whole floors and welcoming over 5,000 attendees annually, hosting SLICE, co-founding the Washington Interactive Learning Alliance (WILA), co-founding the Creative Economy Workforce Coalition (CEW-C), welcoming international delegations of studio founders, and served as the launch pad for dozens of successful games, studios and hundreds of careers in the industry. Not to mention hosting thousands of events and these are just the highlights.

The community has grown to nearly 10,000 members, spread far beyond the confines of Seattle and inspired communities around the world to aspire to what we have accomplished here. None of us could have predicted what these first ten years would have looked like and it is equally hard to predict what the next ten will bring but we look forward to serving you, creating space for your networks and skills to grow and helping the largest community of independent game developers in North America continue to thrive and grow. It would be great to hear some of your favorite Seattle Indies memories from the last decade so please hop onto our Discord and let us know what some of yours were. We would love to see old photos and hear the stories that shaped this community over the years.

Seattle Indies Holiday Party 2026

Seattle Indies is excited to bring you our tenth annual Holiday Party! Join us for a special night of festive drinks and merry-making with your fellow indie devs to celebrate a successful 2026, and kick off 2027!

Note that all Seattle Indies Superhero tier patrons on Patreon at the time of this event creation should have received a code for a ticket to this event.

This event is covered by the Seattle Indies Code of Conduct and Filming Policy: https://www.seattleindies.org/code-of-conduct/

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be over-21 to come?

No, our event is all ages! You need to be over-21, as well have a valid photo ID, in order to be served alcohol by our bartenders.

Do I need to print or show a ticket to enter?

No, all we need is your first and last name that you registered with on Eventbrite, though having a QR code ready will get you (and those behind you) in faster!

Can I bring a guest?

Yes! But everyone will need to have their own Eventbrite registration.

Can I sponsor?

Please do, if you have the means. In reality, buying out a huge venue in the heart of Seattle and providing everyone with food costs much more than the $50 price of admission and is offset by generous sponsors. You can be an indie sponsor via Eventbrite, or if you’d like to be a premium sponsor and have a drink named after you, reach out to ty@seattleindies.org. All donations are tax-deductible.

Can I volunteer?

You can! We’re looking for volunteers who will get a free ticket in return for working half of the time and helping set up and tear down. Contact ty@seattleindies.org if you’re interested.

What do the ticket costs cover?

$50 helps us cover the cost of this special once-a-year event, which includes the full dinner buffet, venue rental, and service staff. Your donation above that will help the Seattle Indies organization with the numerous events and activities we put on throughout the year! The funds we raise at the Holiday Party will be used to help support the following events as we grow through 2026:

This Month’s feature is Ryan Honig

Hi! I’m Ryan (They/He), a solo game developer about to release my first full game, Flipping Phantom. After spending a decade as a software engineer at Microsoft, I was feeling burned out by the tech industry, and left to pursue more creative endeavors. I spent a year baking cookies at Lowrider Cookie Co. before deciding to return to my original love, video game development. After a few years participating in game jams and getting a certificate in Game Design, I decided to take one of my more promising jam projects and turn it into a full release, which became Flipping Phantom.

Game Press Kit for Flipping Phantom (by HonigBeeGames): https://impress.games/press-kit/honigbeegames/flipping-phantom

What inspired you to become a game developer?

I can’t remember a time in my life when I wasn’t playing games. Some of my earliest memories are of playing my mom’s copy of Myst on the family computer. Then when I got to middle school, a friend introduced me to a tool called Game Maker. And though I had not yet learned how to code, I was able to start making games with Game Maker’s visual logic blocks. This led me to find a thriving online community of people making and distributing free games, such as Jumper and Knytt. And while it would be many years before I started to make games again, knowing that solo developers were able to create fully realized projects like this inspired me to try for myself.

What is one important lesson you have learned in your time as a game developer?

Playtesting is so important! Don’t wait until something is polished to get it in front of people, as soon as you have something that people can interact with, start letting people play it. You will learn so much by just seeing where people get stuck or get bored.

What is the one piece of advice you would share today with your younger self before you started your career?

Don’t stay working in software engineering when it’s taking so much out of you, thinking you can just pivot into game development at a later point. Your creativity can’t flow if you have nothing to put into it. Focusing on small game projects just for you is more effective, and you need to just take the leap.

How has the game developer community had an impact on your career?

The Seattle Indies discord has been a great place to connect with others at a similar stage of their game development journey. I love seeing new ideas pop up in the show-and-tell forum, and have made some great connections with people who have commented on my game’s journey.

When facing a challenge, what helps you overcome it?

Whenever I get frustratingly stuck on something, I try to pivot to one of the myriad other items on my ToDo list, ideally in a different discipline. If I have a coding bug I can’t figure out, I’ll switch to pixel art for a few hours. It puts me into a completely different head space, so that when I return to the code I can come at it with a fresh perspective.

What is your most meaningful memory from your game development journey so far?

Seeing strangers play my game for the first time at last year’s SLICE was incredibly powerful. Before that, I was still not entirely sure that people would be interested in the art I am making, but that moment solidified in my mind that there is at least something there that will resonate with people.

What is something interesting and unexpected that people would be surprised to learn about you?

When I am not playing or making games, I love to bake! Baking scratches a similar itch as game development, as it combines both the technical brain in following recipes and the artistic brain in presenting a baked good that is pleasing to look at. I do cake commissions and have even made a few wedding cakes.

How can people follow you and your work?

It’s never too early to bring something – as a wise game developer once said, “as soon as you have something that you can move on the screen, hand someone the controller and see what they think.” Whether you have a simple prototype with programmer art or you’re close to shipping something, bring your game! We don’t require polished art here – make sure it’s fun before you pretty it up!

You’re going to get feedback either way – by playtesting, or eventually in your Steam reviews. Why not get ahead of it and get that feedback before you release? Come to Playtesting Club to ensure your steam reviews will be rock solid!

Looking for feedback on your game? Only had other game developers try it? The Playtesting Club is for you!

robsawn: Terralounge

We just wrapped up our last major updates for UI/UX stuff, and at this point, are just working on wrapping up finishing touches! This is a comfy living match-3, where you help slime friends explore, and hang out with them in a terrarium you design yourself! Think desktop pets, with no consequences for not feeding them! (you can though).

The demo is up on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/5045050/TerraLounge/?update=1, waiting for *you* to wishlist it, and we’ll be releasing November 5th!

Our trailer is up on YouTube: https://youtu.be/5Uad7WfsY3g?si=5qkSriNe9lYc4UzH as well! If anyone happens to stream this or write anything on it, I’d love to know! Thanks for your consideration!

Robert Ackley: The Bridgemancer (by Crimson Stone Games)

Hello folks! Me and some of my friends here in the server have been developing a pathfinding puzzle game called The Bridgemancer: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1375140/The_BridgeMancer/?utm_source=discord&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=next_fest_oct_2026&utm_content=seattle_indies

We’re very excited to be part of this week’s (Week of October 18th)  Steam Next Fest! Our updated free demo is available now on Steam!

You might recognize our game from its origins in the 2019 Seattle Indies game jam or when we exhibited as part of SIX 2023. It’s been a passion project in our spare time, and it’s come a long way!

If you’re unfamiliar, it’s a puzzle adventure game where you wield the powers of bridgemancy to rescue villagers from a kingdom crumbling away due to an ongoing magicquake. Along the way, you gradually unravel the mystery behind the upheaval.

The catch is that you’ll need resources to conjure bridges, and while the villagers flee to safety in one direction, you head in another, so you must be careful not to block the escape routes you create for them.

If you’ve tried the previous demo, you’ll find this updated version includes several new levels, an additional puzzle mechanic, more of the story, and updated visuals.

We invite you to try it out, let us know what you think, and wishlist it if you’re interested in the full game arriving Dec 2nd!

.Oliver Beebe: Super Duper Siege (by Juice Cube)

We’re participating in Steam Next Fest with our open-world roguelike tower defense, Super Duper Siege. Check it out if you’re interested!

Any support is greatly appreciated. Also I’d love to hear if you have any feedback on our marketing material or the game itself.

It is a retro-styled, roguelike, dungeon-crawler inspired take on the classic puzzle game Minesweeper.

It would mean the world if you could go show it some love and give us some early wishlists for the steam algo.

Harassment Policy, AAPI, Black Lives Matter, and Resources

Seattle Indies stands with the AAPI community. We are here for our members who have been affected by the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes both locally and nationally. For further resources to educate yourself on the issue and how to take action, here is a useful link: https://anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co/

Seattle Indies believes the stories of the victims of sexual harassment and assault in the games industry that have been shared. We strongly condemn the actions by people in power preying on the dreams of vulnerable people trying to make their way in the industry. We strive to build an inclusive community that welcomes all minorities to provide a safe environment and a better vision for the game industry.

While our code of conduct states a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind, we are especially sensitive to the daily challenges faced by womxn due to the ingrained sexism that has existed in the structure of the games industry for far too long. We are actively working to build a better community of game developers, and we all need to do better.

Additionally, Board Member Angel Mero  has offered to be a personal resource for anyone who needs help, someone to talk to or some guidance on next steps if you have experienced harassment in the industry either at our events or elsewhere. She can be reached at angel@seattleindies.org.

Our friends at Take This Org have compiled valuable resources for anyone in immediate need of professional help for their situation.

Lastly, Seattle Indies and Diversity Collective+ support Black Lives Matter. Here are some resources compiled by Diversity Collective+ for how you can offer support, whether this is financial, contributing to petitions, preparing for protests, or getting informed. If you have additional resources, comment below and we will add them.

As always, keep an eye on our Discord for any last-minute news and discussion, and let us know about any projects you’re working on that you’d like shared on our Steam or Itch collections or follow us on all of our social media platforms.
