October 2026 Update

Oct 5th, 2026 by Kylie Hammett

Hello Indies!

October is here and last month we just finished the second annual SLICE and the 16th annual Seattle Indies Expo (SIX)!

SLICE returned to McCaw Hall on Wednesday September 2nd with an absolutely stellar lineup of speakers, panels, roundtables, lectures, the PocketGamer Big Indie Pitch competition, the Creative Clinic, Speed Networking and so much more. Read all about the highlights here. With close to 1,100 people registered and 900+ in attendance SLICE 2026 was bigger and better than year one in every way.  Check out the full photo gallery from SLICE.

SIX was hopping again and with well over 5,000 attendees and featured another stellar lineup of 40 games selected by our community judges plus a selection of games from the Chile Games Showcase, Ukrainian Games Festival and some Student games from local high schools and universities. We also interviewed all of the dev teams and some of our sponsors who were on site at Motif for SIX in our annual SIX Online broadcast that you can watch back here. Check out our SIX photo gallery for even more memories.

2026 was the summer of Jimothy and we celebrated with our own Jimothy Jammothy game jam! Check out and play all 28 entries here. Watch the video recap of the highlights: https://youtu.be/kbBO4tU4mR8

The colder and darker months are upon us but there are always more big events to look forward to here to keep you warm and connected with our supportive community. The Holiday Party will be coming up before you know it in December but before that we have the Halloween Party, Game Jam+, Portland Retro Gaming Expo and so much more.

2026 is also our tenth year of operating as a non-profit organization and to celebrate we will be hosting a silent auction at our Halloween Party where you can bid on some exclusive and rare gaming artifacts and memorabilia. Nintendo has donated a full Switch 2 package, local studios and legends are digging into their archives to provide items that will only be available at SIX. All proceeds will benefit Seattle Indies and our ongoing mission to support game developers in the Puget Sound Region and will help keep events like SIX and the rest of our events free or very low cost to attend.

Join Seattle Indies for a spooky night of fun!

On October 30th, come down to PublicDisplay.Art for the annual Seattle Indies Halloween Social! This event is a celebration of indie game culture where you can network, showcase projects, and most importantly, have fun!

This Month’s feature is Corinne Scrivens

Hello! My name is Corinne and I’m a game dev who left larger game studios to create my own indie studio Sabbatical Games and work full time on passion projects. I have almost 20 years of experience: helping ArenaNet ship Guild Wars 2, creating characters like Eris Morn and Amanda Holliday for Destiny at Bungie, then going on to help develop Moss and art directing Glassbreakers at Polyarc.

Our studio’s first game Turning Manor is planned to release in November. Eerie things start happening as soon as you sign the job contract, can you uncover what is going on at Turning Manor? Count the differences in a new type of horror anomaly game that expands the genre with no resets, more lore and leaderboards

Press Kit for Turning Manor (by Sabbatical Games): https://impress.games/press-kit/sabbatical-games/turning-manor

What inspired you to become a game developer?

I have a lot of fond memories growing up playing console games with my brother. Since I was a kid I’ve loved drawing, creating little sculptures and making up imaginary worlds and characters. So it was an easy decision when I got to college and realized I could combine these two loves into working on games for a living.

What is one important lesson you have learned in your time as a game developer?

The most accurate description of shipping a game I’ve heard is that it is like trying to land a plane as you are still building it. One important lesson I’ve learned is planning ahead and being willing to make cuts to help ensure the plane is not also on fire when trying to land it.

What is the one piece of advice you would share today with your younger self before you started your career?

You don’t need school to start learning. Take advantage of all the tutorials, conference talks and 3D programs available online for free. Even before the job hunt look at lower level job descriptions to know what they’re looking for and the portfolios of the people who got those jobs to see what the base line quality bar is for those positions. Apply even if you don’t fit 100% of all the requirements for a job. You never know if you will still be the best fit out of all the candidates.

How has the game developer community had an impact on your career?

When I was in college and trying to get into the games industry there were a couple of individuals that made comments that even if I got a games job it would be “as the one women in the studio photo who works in HR.” Going to talks and conferences I got to see and hear from women and other diverse devs in the industry which inspired me and gave me hope I could make it too.

Now that I’m not working in a larger studios, communities like Seattle Indies have been wonderful for providing regular social interactions with other devs who understand because they have gone through the same indie challenges. It’s also been a great way for me to try to give back with opportunities to mentor others and volunteering to organize events for the Diversity Collective.

When facing a challenge, what helps you overcome it?

Depends on the challenge but generally my strategies include breaking down the problem to small bite size pieces, prioritizing to to do the most important/impactful things first and trying to stay on top of self-care and self-compassion when things get difficult.

What is your most meaningful memory from your game development journey so far?

For me the most meaningful moments have been interactions with fans. We all start off as fans so seeing cosplays of characters I’ve made, players tear up playing something I’ve worked on or even posts about something I did that was liked is surreal. Game development is a lot of hard work done with the hope that someone somewhere will like what you do, so I find these moments really rewarding.

What is something interesting and unexpected that people would be surprised to learn about you?

Pretty much everyone who knows me has said they were surprised to see me create a horror game. People may also be surprised to find out I actually am kind of wimp when it comes to jump scares, however I love the newer genre of liminal horror for how it explores common fears, anxieties and existential dread.

We don’t require polished art here – make sure it’s fun before you pretty it up!

You’re going to get feedback either way – by playtesting, or eventually in your Steam reviews. Why not get ahead of it and get that feedback before you release? Come to Playtesting Club to ensure your steam reviews will be rock solid!

We’re very excited to finally share what we’ve been building. If Farhaven sounds like a game you’d love, we’d really appreciate a wishlist on Steam.

LadieAuPair: Rebind Studios

**A new studio for changing how accessibility gets made**

Today, I’m announcing Rebind Studios: an accessibility and production consultancy built to help teams turn accessibility goals into real, sustainable work.

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked across game development, platforms, production, community, compliance, and accessibility. I’ve seen accessibility succeed when it is treated as part of the product and the way a team works – not as a final review or a collection of isolated fixes.

That idea is at the heart of Rebind Studios.

We work with game studios, publishers, platforms, and other organizations to build accessibility into strategy, design, production, and delivery. That may mean reviewing a game or feature, creating an accessibility roadmap, strengthening an internal program, training a team, supporting production decisions, or improving the accessibility of a website, app, or event.

Rebind is also being built with a longer-term creative goal: making small original games that demonstrate what accessible design can look like when it begins at the foundation. Consulting comes first, but the intention to create is part of the studio from day one.

The name Rebind comes from a familiar game setting: the ability to change a control so that the experience works better for you. It also reflects the broader work ahead – questioning defaults, changing assumptions, and creating more ways for people to participate.

If your team needs practical accessibility guidance, production support, or education grounded in the realities of shipping games and technology, I’d love to hear from you.

Explore services at rebindstudios.com or contact info@rebindstudios.com.

Extra notable for this group – I’m offering a select number of services at highly discounted rates for indies!

Erik P.: I Herd Ewe (by 1 2 Many Humans)

Hi all, I just launched my first game, I Herd Ewe!

I Herd Ewe is a tactical puzzle game about herding sheep. All the levels are designed by me and the animal behavior is completely deterministic, but it’s targeted to more casual players so the puzzles don’t require precise moves. Think Tactical Breach Wizards crossed with A Little to the Left. It’s Android only for now and is also available as part of Play Pass. I’ll be launching on Steam next year.

Official Description:

It’s time for the sheep to head home! Will you command your team of dogs to round them up in as few turns as possible? Or will the sheep outsmart you with their wooly ways?

Direct your team of dogs to herd all the sheep and other animals back home. Each dog has a unique ability to help open up paths, maneuver the sheep, or give each other a boost. Make strategic use of your dogs’ abilities to find the most efficient solution to all 60 puzzles or just chase the sheep around until they find their way home.

Play is turn based, there are no failure conditions, and you can undo all actions within a turn. This means you can sit and think or just try things out and see what happens. As a bonus challenge, earn up to 3 bags of wool by solving each level within the target number of turns.

Harassment Policy, AAPI, Black Lives Matter, and Resources

Seattle Indies stands with the AAPI community. We are here for our members who have been affected by the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes both locally and nationally. For further resources to educate yourself on the issue and how to take action, here is a useful link: https://anti-asianviolenceresources.carrd.co/

Seattle Indies believes the stories of the victims of sexual harassment and assault in the games industry that have been shared. We strongly condemn the actions by people in power preying on the dreams of vulnerable people trying to make their way in the industry. We strive to build an inclusive community that welcomes all minorities to provide a safe environment and a better vision for the game industry.

While our code of conduct states a zero-tolerance policy for harassment of any kind, we are especially sensitive to the daily challenges faced by womxn due to the ingrained sexism that has existed in the structure of the games industry for far too long. We are actively working to build a better community of game developers, and we all need to do better.

Additionally, Board Member Angel Mero  has offered to be a personal resource for anyone who needs help, someone to talk to or some guidance on next steps if you have experienced harassment in the industry either at our events or elsewhere. She can be reached at angel@seattleindies.org.

Our friends at Take This Org have compiled valuable resources for anyone in immediate need of professional help for their situation.

Lastly, Seattle Indies and Diversity Collective+ support Black Lives Matter. Here are some resources compiled by Diversity Collective+ for how you can offer support, whether this is financial, contributing to petitions, preparing for protests, or getting informed. If you have additional resources, comment below and we will add them.
